"Two Brothers"
Two brothers were bound not by blood, but by life and circumstance. Despite the bond between them, there was deep animosity.
These brothers of 7 years of age loved to battle their grievances with each other, often in the snow, as we find them today.
Facing off outside, each behind, imposing walls of ice symbolically separating them, stockpiles of snowballs at the ready.
They launched missiles at each other, unable to breach the walls of ice surely as they failed to breach their animosity.
This went on for hours, each unwilling to yield or leave the security of their forts for fear of a volley of snow missiles.
Yet as they sat, periodically pelting snowballs at each other, one brother felt a sadness over the chasm between.
His sadness deepened through the snowbound standoff as the brother more than anything wanted love and not hate between them.
The brother, laden with sadness decided to surrender, and as if possessed he stood up and left the solitude of his fort.
He expected a hail of snow and pain as he walked out, and his brother reared to seize the unexpected gift of his target.
As the brother reared to throw, he wondered at the ploy of the other, then he let the first one fly, missing his target.
He wound up to throw again, and then, something changed. Slowly he lowered his arm, dropping his snow missile.
They stood for a moment, staring across the gulf, then the other left his fort and walked to his brother, giving him a hug.
Their Mother (Guardian to the one) who had been watching from the window, saw them embrace and burst into tears of joy.
FIN.
